School kids can teach you a thing or two about financial literacy ​ 

 KZN- Financial Literacy Annual Speech Contest 2013

Representatives from the Financial Services Board (FSB) attended the annual KwaZulu-Natal Grade 11 Financial Literacy Speech Competition in Newcastle on 11 October 2013. The competition is a highlight of the school year and schools from all over the province participate.

Lyndwill Clarke (HOD: Consumer Education Department) was head adjudicator and Tamrynne Peyper (Manager: CED) acted as timekeeper. The competition is championed by the MEC for Finance in KZN, Ms Ina Cronjé, who gave the closing remarks at the finals.  

 

The learners spoke on the following list of topics:
 

·         Me versus the FSPs- do we stand a chance?

·         Mom, dad will we ever be rich?

·         What financial product can I buy with my pocket money

 

​The Top twelve finalists were; Bongumusa Nkwanyana (winner), Angel Mchunu, Hafsa Rajab, Zamokuhle Ximba , Thabo Mkhize, Brilliant Zulu Mfundo, Siyabonga Shazi Sanele, Khayelihle Madlopha, Zama Ndlovu, Londeka Madondo, Nothando Mlungwana and Nobuhle Zondo​

The winner, Bongumusa Nkwanyana from Eshowe High School in the Uthungulu district, received, among other prizes, a scholarship from the Financial Planning Institute (FPI) to study financial planning.​
