Capital Markets

The Capital Markets department of the Financial Services Board (FSB) is responsible for the supervision of South African licensed exchanges (JSE Limited), central securities depositories (STRATE Limited) and clearing houses (STRATE Limited and SAFCOM) in terms of the Financial Markets Act, 2012.

 

In fulfilling this function, the department strives to ensure sound, efficient, fair and transparent capital markets and related services for the trading, clearing and settlement of securities, including appropriate mechanisms for investor protection. Exchanges and central securities depositories or independent clearing houses are Self-regulatory Organisations responsible for ensuring their members comply with the applicable securities legislation and their rules, as approved by the FSB.
